The Orphanage at Sevalaya, Thiruvallur, Chennai, India

Sevalaya is a registered charitable Trust, established in the year 1988, is headquartered in Chennai. The first centre of operations was started in Kasuva village near Thiruninravur, 42 KMs West of Chennai. Once largely inhabited by brick kiln labourers, whose children often accompanied them to work, the area has now been transformed into a vibrant community, with child labour totally abolished in Kasuva and over 40+ surrounding villages.

Sevalaya is stepping into its 36th year, the impact of our work and partnership with Corporates, Foundations and High network individuals has now spread to 28 locations across nine districts in Tamilnadu reflecting the growth momentum. The ranges of services offered have also diversified, impacting the lives of many lakhs of lives.

The vision of Sevalaya is to serve the poor and transform them into an equitable, happy and fulfilled society with an improved quality of life.

Sevalaya draws its inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi, Swami Vivekananda and Mahakavi Subramania Bharathiyar. Sevalaya’s Vision is based on the following three mantras:

Our core areas of work are 1. Education, 2. Health Care, 3. Rural Development and 4. Food & Shelter. We run free School – Primary up to 12th std, Community colleges, Tuition centres, Medical centres, Mobile medical services, Home for the destitute elders, Home for the orphan children, Organic farming and Gaushala cow shelter.

Sevalaya’s, Mahakavi Bharathiyar Higher Secondary School, runs free classes from Montessori to Senior Secondary in Kasuva, Tirunindravur, Thiruvallur district. The school now has a strength of 2180 students. The school is Government recognized (unaided).

Help Foundation is currently supporting 36 hostel children at Sevalaya.
